Lecture Slides: Arousal and Attraction (Two-Group Design Demonstration)

Sexual attraction vs sexual arousal – Asexuality New Zealand Trust

In this demonstration/activity (with PowerPoint slides) students are randomly assigned to a high or low arousal group based on the last digit of their social security number. Those in high arousal condition believe they will give a short speech on a randomly selected topic. Those in low arousal condition believe they will merely listen a short speech on a randomly selected topic.  Both groups rate the physical attractiveness of several pictures (taken from HotorNot.com) .

During the “Data Analysis” slide instructors can take the time to analyze the data in class if time/facilities permit. Afterward, students  have the opportunity to discuss key features of the experiment such as IV, DV, manipulation checks, use of deception, and  the importance of experimental control.
